Reflecting back on your earlier discussion, how did you reach the agreement that it was the strongest idea?

For our Maryland Cookie advert, we decided that it was the strongest idea for
various one reasons. One reasons is because the advert is fast-paced, so this would be a good idea because this will draw the attention of the viewers of a wide age range. Also, our idea is strong because the idea is original because we our involved in the advert. Secondly, we decided that our agreement was the strongest idea because there are a lot of transitions in our advert. This is a good idea because this shows that there is a constant change in the advert and that will also draw the attention of viewers because there are a lot of things happening in the advert. Also, at the end of our advert we show Maryland cookies dropping from above. This creates a big impact to the advert, and adding suspense as well as excitement to allow the mind to wanting more.

Give three reasons why the other ideas werent successful

One of the ideas put forward by my group was a beach ball advert. They put this Idea forward because at the time of the production and distribution of our Advert, the beach ball had an increase in sales to a new movie called
Straight out Of Compton came out. So therefore it would be something relatable at that moment in time. However, this would have meant that we would need to produce an advert around like a California based environment .The reason why we decided that this advert wasn’t going to be used was because it didn’t appeal to the majority of the target audience It would be using California environment and would therefore leave the audience unaware seeing how London is the opposite of California. As I mentioned previously, half of the target audience are people who are in places with rain and cold weather not beaches and sunny skies, so to make an advert based around people with weather of the opposite and wouldn’t appeal to them as much. Another reason as to why this idea wasn’t successful was because most of the previous beach ball adverts are taking in place in California and Miami location. If we were to go along with this idea then it wouldn’t bring any originality to the marketing campaigns and would just be another advert that they have already made. It wouldn’t be unique, and would mean that our pitch wouldn’t stand out. Another idea that we had was to playing a game with biscuits. Something likes a game of dominos, but instead with biscuits.  This idea would have been unique and certainly outstanding, but we didn’t go along with it is simply because it would have encouraged bad habits, such as playing with food.  This would have gone against the guidelines of ASA (Advertising Standards Agency), and therefore would have meant that

Advert 1:
Product Name: Nike

Nike launched its Risk Everything Football movement for 2014 plus for this they made an ad called ‘Winner Stays’. The video went viral reaching over 100 Million views.  In this ad well-known football players are included such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Newmar Jr., Wayne Rooney and many more. The ad connects to players’ passion for the game whether you one of the world’s best or players in the street. The phrase Winner Stays may sound accustomed, when young players from all around the world compete against their friends to win and pretend to be one of their idols.
Nike shoes are usually focused within age range of 16 to 34 (teenagers to young adults.) I think that from the age of 16, you start to get more qualified and therefore would want better shoes.
Nike shoes are typically for males. Most of the football players are males and a very few of them are females. Most of the time, Nike shoes are more luxurious from the other shoes. It is for AB audience that have more spending power. Nike's professional shoes are for the people who are confident to improve their selves and they are not afraid against hardships. Nike's advertisements are focused on this target audience, the achievers.

Advert 2: The products name is Dior Homme fragrance. The advert is aimed at rich and classy people because of the scenery and location the advert was set in and the rich places they go to. Plus the black and white image for the advert helps to reinforce that as well. Moreover the advert uses popular and big actors who are wide known for their movies this makes the audience want to copy their idols or whoever they look up to, since their idols is using the products that means the customers would feel good and valued if they buy a product that big actors use. Furthermore the actors look happy and excited by using the product that they go out to many places to show off.

Advert 3: The service name is John Lewis Home insurance. The advert is aimed for both children and adults as the service is about home insurance. People would be happy if they have an insurance because they would feel secure and valued, they could get back anything they damage or break. Moreover the kid in the advert is dancing around the house which shows how happy she is of the insurance.

30.1.6

1.2. The advertisements that the population of britain are exposed to is all regulated by the A.S.A (The Advertising Standards authority).  There is a process of how adverts are broadcasted or taken down. The A.S.A look for aspects that can mislead, harm and/or offend a viewer, if it does neither of these it can then be broadcasted to the public.

3.Good Year- Run on flat (an add that was taken off air and banned)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R07-gZxxwDI

In this video a lady realizes that one of her tires is punctured. She then attempts to change it by pulling it off. She then looses grip and trips backwards, over a bridge and plummets into a moving truck. The words "Changing tires can be dangerous" then appears on screen and then ends.

4. I feel like this add was banned as it would be offensive to females as it conveys stereotypes about women and portrays them to be week, not being able to do hands on work. This is evident as it shows a lady attempting to change her cars flat tire but ending by tripping up and falling backwards off a bridge. Thus violating the A.S.A guidelines as it is proven to be offensive towards women and those who are feminine.

5. On the other hand some may argue that it should not be banned as it actually sends a message out that "Changing tires can be dangerous" and that it could be a call for action sending out a true message to help the public.

6.This add was banned as it clearly
violated A.S.A guidelines. It is an add which offends women as it portrays them as weak and unable to do tasks traditionally done by men causing it to be sexist. The add also does go over the top and misleads audiences as changing a tire would not be that dangerous.

7. I do believe that the regulators were right to ban this add as it is sexist and it clearly violates the guidelines that should be used when making an advertisement.

30.1.4

Advert 1

McDonald's Buttermilk Crispy Chicken

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOJszluqhes

This advert uses a range of persuasive techniques as it uses adjectives to describe the chicken such as delicious, serious. It also uses a fact as it says it has "100% real chicken filet and real butter milk with no artificial colouring". The fact that the advert has peoples real reactions and views on the product draws the attention of viewers and acts as another persuasive technique.

The unique selling point of this products advert is that it uses real peoples reactions and reviews in the advert.

Advert 2

Go compare

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_-9QFvhQWo

This advert uses repetition as a form of persuasion. It repeats "Go compare" through the ad, causing the ad to embed itself into the minds of viewers, thus making them link this ad in particular to car insurance so when it comes to buying car insurance they "Go compare".

The USP of this products advert is that is uses a catchy song that repeats the companies name so that it sticks to the minds of viewers.

Advert 3

Colgate

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ULR68LTmbw

This add uses facts and statistics as a persuasion technique. It says that the product has been "clinically proven to protect against a complete range of oral health problems for a full 12 hours". Thus drawing consumers attention to the advert and therefore to the product. It also uses peoples real reactions and views on the product like the McDonalds add.

The USP of this add is that it uses both real peoples reactions and facts.

30.1.2

Persuasive techniques used in advertisement

The Anecdote
Think! Child road safety
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxHBVgM9zfg
This advert uses a story of a boy that was hit by a car. Therefore it creates a larger effect on the audience as it uses a real anecdote and stereotypically audiences will be more likely attracted to something if it is true and has a story behind it all.

Adjectives
Adopt a wild snow leopard
At first the advertisement attempts to make the audience feel somewhat sympathetic towards the snow leopard by using adjectives such as “Harshest winters” and “Ruthlessly hunted”. Near to the end they begin to promote the program by saying “You” and “Your”, then describes the adoption pack as a “special” gift someone or yourself.

Repetition
Go Compare
This advertisement involves a catchy song that has the words go compare added on numerous occasions. This has an effect that embeds the title of the company and the company's website into the minds of viewers so that when it comes to a stage where the public need to search for car insurance they would most likely “Go Compare”.

Statistics
M&S
This advertisement claims at the end that the company M&S has over 100 new ideas every month, which would convey to the audience that M&S has a variety of original food. Therefore attracting more customers to them due to the fact that humans want more.

Fact
Colgate
This add clams that their product has been clinically proven to help fight against various oral health problems for a total of 12 hours. Thus drawing consumers attention to the advert and therefore to the product.

30.1.1

What is advertisement?

1. Advertisement is the way a company or business promotes and conveys its product, service and or call of action to their chosen target demographic or the public as a whole.

Comparison of three adverts and their key characteristics:
